I have been browsing through loads and loads of deviant's page and it seems to me that there is 2 very important issues that we all see too often BUT we do not know if its kinda right or wrong . To some people even if its wrong , they will still keep on doing it because they didnt get caught .  In their heads , the equation goes like this :  Not caught by admins = Its okay , Its aright

First issue is regarding tracing arts , yes its a silly topic but honestly where is the fun in tracing ? You will never get better if you are just tracing things over and over again . The last time that i remembered that I traced something was when I was a very VERY young kid and learning my first A,B,C . Then I would have to trace the alphabets one by one so I could memorize them .

You see the big problem is that when you trace arts , you will NOT get much better then you thing because its just tracing it blindly . If I gave you an empty piece of paper and asked you to draw out whatever that you trace yesterday , what are the chances that you can even get it 50% correct ?   I have seen deviants that traced their entire gallery and then complaining about not having enough pageviews , not even watchers etc . When someone that seen a similar art that they traced and told this particular deviant off , imagine what will happen next . Things like drama , reporting to admins , NO I did it myself , i didnt trace , I will block you etc etc .

Some are clear cut tracing but some are not so before you start to wonder if its traced , just drop a note to that deviant and asked if its it instead of causing a huge commotion in their page . It makes them look bad and it makes you look bad too . I have loads of drama in my page here before and I certainly do not enjoy it a single bit . But if they are people like trolls who doesnt know a thing about art and started to give stupid comments , just do yourself a favour and ignore / block them . No point trying to convince them because they wanted attention from you .

Now for the last thing that I wana bring up is ANOTHER disturbing process that I feel is totally not right at all . Things like selling adopts that is made from copyrighted characters such as sonic the hedgogh etc . or making commission pieces from characters from FROZEN , LITTLE MERMAID etc .  And just to let you guys know , making things like FAN ARTS especially , those are not legal technically be it from manga or from shows . Before I forget , fan arts are sold as commission pieces , i dont see anyone bitching about it ?

So good for them , bad for me . Why ? Because here  comes these HUGE bunch of people have been cursing the life out of me for painting this when the original intention of painting this art piece to let some of my friends know that its possible to do things traditionally as a good form of example or coaching process  I still remembered the nightmare that I have to go through for the next  2 weeks because some jealous doo doo spammed like 50 comments about how an art theft I am when credits have been given .  It didnt just end there , she wanted me out of deviantart for good and mass reported to admins etc , so why on earth does it have to be me honestly ? . Hell I even posted a journal entry about what I am going to do and why am i going to do this art work , its all for the sake of people who want to learn a thing or 2 about painting techniques and the possibilities of traditional painting . Haters dont read , they just hate . Completed : Restoration Angel by JeremyArts

Where is the justice honestly ,  people publicly selling adopts , opening commissions on all these licensed stuffs for their own profits and benefits .So why do i rarely see haters on their page ? . Imagine if I would paint something again from Magic the gathering , I would get loads and loads of HATE and CURSING as usual about what an art theft I am , its a printed copy and its impossible that you painted it etc  . If you guys want to hate or complain so much , please go look for those that are selling things on DEVIANTART itself for DA points or for real money , they are the ones that need your attention .

Deviantart is a very unforgiving place as you know , its the internet . People can say whatever they want here and pretend to be captain america behind the keyboard so that means that they can also DO WHATEVER they want so long they are safe behind the monitor . These are people that I certainly do not respect and I suggest you not to get close to such people .

ps : I realized that most haters here cant do art at all , they excel better at typing  .

While there is nothing with creating fan art in and of itself (as long as you give credit) and many of the creators do enjoy seeing it, I have to agree that making a profit off it is wrong and technically illegal. I am not sure if it that includes point commissions as well or just actual money, either way, I save that for fun or requests instead of commissions as I rather not risk it.

Also tracing a bad idea, While there are some original bases out there with permission to use as long as credited and that isn't breaking any rules, it still doesn't help someone that wants to learn or improve if they rely on those all the time. What actually helped me was studying references and anatomy. I learn how the body moves and drawing it on my own. There are plenty of free resources people put out there to help others that and I suggest people take advantage of that. Make sure you read the rules and don't just use a single reference, try do use different ones. Like some for arm and leg poses, hands, etc....Even if you don't post any traced art online/in public, the main issue in that case is that you still aren't learning how the body really works/looks like. Not learning structure, muscles and most likely just blinding making the same mistakes as other artist (many of the non-original bases are just poorly made as not only are they creating it off someone else's work, but they themselves don't know the anatomy or other basics and you can often tell just by looks at it. They often look terrible).

I get that many artist are new or don't take classes and their art work isn't going to be the best. It is o.k., just keep practicing and you improve overtime. Nobody starts out really good right away, it comes with practice. Just be proud that you tried your best and make the art piece on your own without going over someone else's work. Look for free tutorials online (on here or YouTube, etc...), see if you can borrow art books from the library. If you are able to, go try to take some classes. There are some groups on here that help with corrections and give advice.

Sure there are a few jerks on DA (I ran into a few before. Most were trolls that don't even create or post any type of art at all, but there were a few people who are great artist and writers that were just generally rude to me and others before), but try not to let them stop you or ruin your fun and enjoyment. There are many nice people as well. There will always be jerks along with nice people, that is just part of life unfortunately.
